Welcome to the Forensics Course

Welcome to the Boston Mentor session! I am your mentor, Evan Wheeler, and I would like to thank you for registering for the Computer Forensics, Investigation, and Response course.

Our class will be meeting at the following time and location:

Tuesday, January 13th 6:00pm
Omgeo (Thomson Reuters), Conference Room E
22 Thomson Place
Boston, MA

Please note that the street address changed from 55 to 22 Thomson Place (across the street from each other). You can reach the office easily by taking the Silver Line one stop from South Station towards the airport and getting off at Courthouse Station. Or you walk a few blocks from South Station (10 minute walk). The office is right behind the Children's Museum and there is plenty of parking. There is also a Thomson visitors lot at the end of Thomson Place that you may be able to park in, but we will have to check with the front desk.

The SANS Mentor Program is a self-study learning experience. You will work independently at your own pace, and are expected to read the course books and any study materials provided, prior to attending the Mentor-led sessions.

Our first meeting will be an informational session to review the SANS Mentor Program and an in-depth overview of the GIAC certification process. In the following sessions, we will gather each week for two-hours, to review material, highlight key concepts, answers questions, and demonstrate specific problems and solutions via hands-on demonstrations.

As your Mentor, I am here to offer guidance and will assist you in learning and understanding the course material. Due to time constraints, we will not be covering each topic in detail like the SANS week-long conferences, so please come to come to class prepared to discuss the material.

Feel free to introduce yourself, where you work, day to day responsibilities, security experience, any organizations you are affiliated with, and what expectations you envision of the class.

If you have a laptop, please bring it to class. This will allow you the opportunity to develop some hands-on skills with the material covered. You will not need your laptop for the first meeting.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions that arise.

I look forward to meeting you and our upcoming sessions!
